MASwings has teamed up once again with Malaysia Airports in a joint collaboration in organising a Safety and Security Awareness Campaign held at Long Banga on the 24th July and Long Akah on the 25th July.
This program is a continuation from the previous safety and security campaign in Bakelalan and Bario last April.
MASwings has continuously strengthened and increased its effort in educating the rural communities about safety, quality and security regulation throughout all areas of operation relating to air travel.
The commitment shown by MASwings to further enhance their safety performance can be seen during the event in which the participants are taught about the basic flight safety as well as ground safety.
MASwings believe that through this campaign, a strong safety and security culture can be achieved in every aspects of their operations.
“Safety is founded in close partnership, we will constantly stand hand in hand with Malaysia Airports, Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and other regulatory agencies to ensure that we achieve the highest standard in safety, quality and security in all areas of our operations” said Encik Nasip Roslan, Head of Engineering & Maintenance MASwings.
“Malaysia Airports views the STOLports as a vital contribution to the rural communities in Sabah and Sarawak,” explained Encik Kamaruzaman Razali, Senior Airport Manager Miri, Malaysia Airports. “Instilling safety awareness amongst the communities increases the security proposition that almost ensures smooth operation at the STOL Ports,” he continued.
Safety is an issue that demands constant vigilance. As an industry, MASwings is committed and focused in ensuring that the improvements are achieved within the area of its operations are maintained infinitely with the aim of sustaining public confidence in the safety and security of air travel.
Present to support the campaign is YB Lihan Jok, ADUN Telang Usan, Baram , Encik Kamaruddin Razali, Senior Airport Manager Miri, Encik Nasip Roslan, Head of Engineering MASwings and Encik Zainuddin Mohamed, Regional Manager Sarawak MASwings.
During the two day campaign, participants were taught to conduct security checks on a passenger and to advice them not to check in valuable items such as jewelries, hand phones, or money. Sharp objects such as knives, spears, axes and scissors are prohibited to be carried as hand item.
They were also instructed to enforce on weighing a passenger along with their baggage during check in to ensure the aircraft does not exceed the maximum allowable rate as the twin otter aircraft has limited weight capabilities.
MASwings will continue to affiliate with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Malaysia Airports and other regulatory agencies as well as stakeholders to further strengthen regulatory oversight and contribution towards ensuring utmost standards of aviation security, through a collective effort.
MASwings has also manage to fulfill their social duty by donating used books to the communities in Long Banga and Long Akah in conjunction with their ongoing effort to reach the communities of Sarawak through their community services program. MASwings calling for book donation drive from its counterpart in United Kingdom and Australia is one of the ways in which MASwings is able to contribute to the rural communities by eradicating or lowering the percentage of illiteracy and encourage the habits of reading amongst the younger generation.
