KUCHING: Malaysia Airlines/MASwings today announced a major expansion of its self-service check-in facilities with the introduction of six (06) SITA AirportConnect - S3 Kiosk at Kuching International Airport (KIA).
Previously available only in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Malaysia Airlines /MASwings passengers can now use the automated facility made available at six kiosks positioned at Departure Hall Level 3 KIA.
Malaysia Airlines’ Managing Director, YM Tengku Datuk Azmil Zahruddin officiated the launch to commemorate the introduction of self-service check-in at a ceremony held at KIA today. Also present were Dato’ Mohd Salleh Ahmad Tabrani, Managing Director MASwings, government official, travel agents and other stakeholders.
“In our quest to provide 5 star services to our valued customer, we continue relentlessly to introduce facilities and offerings that will make our customers’ journey and experience with our airlines a more comfortable and flawless one. The introduction of the ultra modern S3 kiosk from SITA at KIA is an attestation to our commitment”, said Dato’ Mohd Salleh.
The AirportConnect S3 kiosk system employs touch-screen technology has passport and card readers for instant passenger recognition and prints 2D barcode boarding pass on this thermal paper. Customers using the kiosk to perform check in need to drop off their baggage, if any, at designated airport counters. Six (6) units of the kiosk are placed between check-in counters Island 8 and 9 at KIA. Passengers may check-in as early as 48 hours from the time of departure.
“We will also position our staff to assist customers on proper usage of the kiosk. We are confident, our customers will find this option convenient whereby they can check-in and select their preferred seats 48 hours before departure to domestic and international destinations”, added Dato’ Mohd Salleh.
Meanwhile, Damian Hickey, SITA Regional Vice President, said: “the AirportConnect S3 kiosk is the most compact, free standing self-service check-in kiosk available and will certainly add to the appeal of these destinations to both domestic and international travelers. Two S3 Kiosks take up the same space as one conventional self-service check-in kiosk and they weigh just 70 kgs each”
