MASwings Safety and Security Campaign at STOL Port

In keeping up with its move to ensure safety and security is enforced throughout all areas of operation, MASwings has teamed up with Malaysia Airport Berhad in organizing a Safety and Security Awareness Campaign at STOL ports.

The Safety and Security campaign was held in Bakelalan on the 17th April and Bario on the 18th April with the aim to create awareness amongst the rural folks.

“Safety is founded in close collaboration. When it comes to safety and security programs, we stand hand in hand with Malaysia Airport Berhad (MAB), Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) and other regulatory agencies to ensure that we achieve the highest standard in safety, quality and security in all phases of our operations” said Encik Wan Abdul Rahim Wan Ishak, General Manager Operations MASwings.

“We must play our role as a carrier to educate the people from rural areas on the importance of flight safety as well as ground safety. There is no room for complacency and we must maintain our efforts to further enhance safety performance,” he added.

Safety is an issue that demands constant vigilance. As an industry, MASwings is committed and focused in ensuring that the improvements are achieved within the area of its operations are maintained infinitely with the aim of sustaining public confidence in the safety and security of air travel.

Present to support the campaign is YB Nelson Balang Ringin, ADUN Bakelalan, Dato Azmi Murad, Senior General Manager MAB and Tuan Haji Rahman Mahat, Director of Aviation Security, DCA.

During the two-day event, participants were taught on the importance of safety and to practice safety as well as the dos and don’ts before, during and after a flight as well as when in the vicinity of a controlled airport facilities.

They were told to enforce on weighing a passenger along with their baggage during check in to ensure the aircraft does not exceed the maximum allowable weight as the twin otter aircraft has limited weight capabilities.

They were also taught to conduct security checks on a passenger and to advice them not to check in valuable items such as jewelries, hand phones or money. Sharp objects such as knives, spears, axes and scissors are not allowed to be hand carried.

MASwings will continue to work with the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA), Malaysia Airport Berhad (MAB) and other regulatory agencies as well as other stakeholders to further strengthen regulatory oversight and contribution towards ensuring the highest possible level of aviation security, through a collective effort.

In conjunction with the Safety and Security campaign, MASwings also manage to fulfill its community service obligation by donating stationeries for the schools in Bakelalan and Bario.
