MASwings NON STOP SERVICES FROM KUCHING TO MULU

KUCHING: MASwings today announced it would revive the Kuching – Mulu sector by introducing a direct non-stop service Kuching-Mulu-Kuching effective 15 September 2009.

MASwings Managing Director, Mohamad Salleh Ahmad Tabrani said, “MASwings has been studying the demand for this sector the past few months and believed the route will be able to meet the demand of many tourist arrivals into Kuching and wish to continue their journey to Mulu”.

Mulu is the “jewel in the crown” of the tourism industry in Sarawak and our effort in introducing this direct service is part of our commitment to assist the Government of Sarawak to make Mulu more accessible and reachable to many tourists.

Salleh said, “ With Malaysia Airlines network of 2039 destinations worldwide, tourist intended to travel Mulu will have seamless connection either via Kuala Lumpur, Singapore or Johor Bahru”.

MASwings is actively playing its role to promote Sabah and Sarawak to the rest of the world through our Malaysia Airlines offices and agents at overseas stations as well as working with both state tourism bodies.

In addition to that, MASwings is organising a co-sponsored familiarization trip with Sarawak Tourism Board and Royal Mulu Resort for international journalists from various destination such as Taiwan, Korea, Vietnam and China to have a first hand experience stay in Kuching and Mulu in conjunction with its inaugural flight.

The celebration of the inaugural flight will be held on 15 September at Royal Mulu Resort, which will be officiated by Minister of Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Michael Manyin. A delegation of 60 invitees will take this maiden flight to Mulu and a special welcoming ceremony will be held in Mulu to mark the new direct service.

Prior to the introduction of the direct services, tourists have to travel from Kuching to Miri before taking a connecting flight from Miri to Mulu, which took them almost 2 hours 45 minutes including transit time.  The direct service will take approximately 1 hour 35 minutes and the reduction in time will allow tourist more time to explore Mulu to the fullest.

The non-stop flight from Kuching to Mulu and vice versa will operate three times a week on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday on Fokker 50 services.  The flight from Kuching will depart at 11.20am and arrive Mulu at 12.55pm, whereas the flight from Mulu will depart at 3.40pm and arrive Kuching at 5.15pm.

In conjunction with the direct service, special promotional 3days 2 nights packages are available from RM475-RM1195 with selection of stay at Royal Mulu Hotel or Park Chalet.  These fares are available at selected agents such as Straits Central, Borneo Adventure, Orient, Pin Sing, Borneo Exploration, Insar Tours, Inter Borneo Tours, Cat City Holidays, Diethelm Travel, Borneo Transverse, and CPH Travel Agencies.

MATTA Chairman, Mr Matthew Chen praises MASwings decision to operate direct from Kuching to Mulu.  He said, “ The direct service is definitely a good move made my MASwings.  This will provide convenience to the traveling public especially from Kuching.

He added “ I am confident that MASwings will be able to provide good connection from Kuching to Mulu especially for tourist coming in from Singapore.  The existing direct flight from Singapore to Kuching also carries a number of tourists from other countries such as America and Europe”.
