Kota Kinabalu: MASwings, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines today launches its safety and security awareness campaign.
The awareness campaign was officiated by Dato Sri Idris Jala, Chairman of MASwings, at Kota Kinabalu International Airport. Among present were officials from Department of Civil Aviation, Malaysia Airport Berhad and other regulatory bodies as well as officials from both MAS and MASwings Sdn Bhd.
The objective of the campaign is to create awareness on safety and security amongst employees in their daily activities in line with the Corporate Safety, Quality and Security Policy Statement as well as to create a positive safety, quality and security culture in the company.
MASwings Managing Director, Mohd Salleh Ahmad Tabrani said, “Our commitment to safety is our main priority, therefore we will focus in achieving and surpassing the safety and security standards in every aspect of our operations”.
“The safety and security awareness can help air transport play its role as a catalyst for economic growth amid the enormous crisis in the global economy. We must be resilient in the times of crisis and we must turn challenges into operations to be safer, greener and profitable”, he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Dato Sri Idris Jala, Chairman MASwings and Managing Director Malaysia Airlines expressed his appreciation over MASwings in making safety and security everyone’s business. “We are always positioning to be the airline that ranks amongst the best in terms of safety, comfort and punctuality”, he said.
The awareness campaign is a continuation of MASwings first line station safety and security seminar dialogue session held in Miri between MASwings and Ground Handling Agents at STOL Port areas on 12 February 2009.
During the campaign, the airline also unveils its inaugural safety and security newsletter used as a median to educate and reinforce safety and security amongst the employees.
The exhibition booth displaying safety, security equipments, photos, health and environment brochures during the one-day event is also open to the public.
MASwings has adopted “Safety First” policy in accordance with the legal requirements and industry best practise. MASwings is focused in achieving the highest standards in safety, quality and security in all phases of its operations.
Salleh also thanked the regulators and business partners for their effort in ensuring safety and security aspect remain priority in the aviation industry. Aviation security is a collective responsibility and MASwings will continue to join forces with stakeholders, regulators and airport authorities to ensure that air transportation continues to be the safest in the region.
MASwings commenced its operations on October 1 2007, offers 700 weekly flights, which serves a network of 22 destinations in Sarawak and Sabah as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan. It currently has a fleet of 7 Fokker 50, 4 Twin Otter aircraft and 4 ATR72.
