MASwings launched new destination - Tanjung Manis

Sarikei: MASwings, a wholly owned subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines, today launched its first direct flight from Kuching to Tanjung Manis.

The inaugural flight was officiated by YB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr. George Chan, Deputy Chief Minister of Sarawak, at Kuching International Airport.

The flight, MH3713 took off from Kuching at 8.45am in the morning, arrived here in Tanjung Manis at 9.20am. Among the guests who traveled on the inaugural flight were Deputy Tourism Minister YB Hj Hamden Hj Ahmad and State Secretary YB Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot, together with MASwings Managing Director Dr .Amin Khan.

Dr. Amin Khan said, “We are extremely pleased to start this new service in light of Tanjung Manis status as one of Sarawak’s fastest developing industrial centre with further growth potential.”

“This introduction of service to Tanjung Manis, the key regional corridor following the introduction of SCORE, is part of our commitment to support the Government effort to accelerate economic growth in Sarawak.” he added.

Speaking on the occasion, YB Hj. Hamden Hj. Ahmad, Deputy Tourism Minister expressed his happiness over the start of this new service. “This will not only help to provide better convenience for the traveling community but also help to open up new avenues of economic development in the area “he said.

En. Hashim Hj. Bojet, Acting Senior Assistant General Manager (Project Development) Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC), welcomed MASwings move for it will complement the rapid development in Tanjung Manis.

The direct flight from Kuching to Tanjung Manis operates three times a week, on every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, using a 19-seater Twin Otter aircraft.

MASwings commenced its operations on October 1 2007, offers 451 weekly flights, which serves a network of 22 destinations in Sarawak and Sabah as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan. It currently has a fleet of 7 Fokker 50 and 5 Twin Otter aircraft.
